Inspections
The OSHA regulations are very clear on the requirement for overhead system users to inspect their equipment on a regular basis.  In response, Piedmont Hoist & Crane has developed the area's most thorough inspection routine and has trained technicians readily available to help our customers with the right periodic inspection that meets their specific needs.  We provide this service on a contract basis for many customers and perform valuable preventative maintenance while conducting the inspection.

Training

Piedmont Hoist & Crane offers on-site operator training that is specific to your equipment with a session length of approximately four hours.

Our operator training consists of the following:

Course Sections Include:

  • Classroom training including video and inspection of defective samples
  • Questions and answers period
  • Hands-on, shop floor, check out of daily OSHA safety inspection requirements
  • Written testing
  • Sign-out sheet
Topics Covered Include:
  • Proper crane terminology
  • Basic listing of codes pertaining to overhead hoists, cranes and attachments
  • OSHA daily overhead hoist and crane operator inspection requirements and instruction in proper inspection methods
  • Review of "CMAA Crane Operator Manual"
  • Proper sling instruction and inspection
A Safety Training Certificate will be provided by Piedmont Hoist & Crane, Inc. after review of the test material.
This CD-ROM training program utilizes the multimedia format to show proper and improper conditions and techniques of crane operation and daily inspection. The program trains a company's overhead hoist and crane users and their supervisors in the proper safety and inspection requirements as required by OSHA and other codes for overhead hoists, cranes, slings, and below-the-hook devices.
Benefits of CD-ROM Training
  • Low cost per person. Much Lower than typical on-site Training.
  • No need to take an entire group of people off the floor at one time, causing a loss of production. The CD-ROM will allow you to train one individual at a time.
  • Easy to use. Once the supervisor sets up the user screen with the trainee's basic information and has chosen any applicable options the computer is turned over to the trainee. All the trainee is required to do is listen, look, and click the mouse button.
  • Strong testing and verification of comprehension. Upon completion of each chapter, the trainee is required to answer a randomly chosen set of multiple choice and true or false questions. The trainee must receive a score of at least 80% to be able proceed to the next chapter, a test score lower than 80% causes the present chapter to restart. Upon receiving a satisfactory score the trainee must still review the questions that were answered incorrectly before proceeding.
  • Time Saver. Supervisors spend less time setting up and administering the training.
  • Consistency in training. All trainees receive identical training.
